Finding the story in Eva’s threads was difficult. There were so many beautiful and yet unconnected stories we wanted to collate. In the end we chose a loose narrative. This reflected the loose nature of memories and the fragile state of the mind. Eva’s stories of loss invite the audience to be grateful for what they have left, and encourage them to live full lives, so when they reach a reflective point in their life, they can look back and be very proud. Although sad, there is a distinctive feeling that these good memories are ones that provide great company. We were really clear about our style from the outset. Trying to find these memories is like pulling threads: you don’t know what will be at the other end or where it will lead you. In our research we learned about how synapses snap together in different ways creating different thought patterns and triggering unique images in the mind. That’s what we wanted to do with Eva. We wanted to capture memories of hers that she had not thought of in such a long time. Our first meeting inspired us with this idea when she had remembered a story about fire. She was amazed that she had not thought about such things in such a long time. Those are sometimes the best stories to hear. Eva was a blessing to work with.
