Eva was born in Melbourne of Polish and Russian parents. She lived in Carlton and was educated at N. Fitzroy, Brunswick, Princes Hill and then at University High. She spoke Yiddish and English at home. During the war, she volunteered for Jewish Welfare at Burke Road House in Camberwell, where many new migrants would come, helping them to find housing, jobs and looking after their children. She learned to volunteer and contribute to the community there and by watching her father’s community work with Kadimah. She moved to Kew when she married and helped found the Kew Shul with her husband and has been the leader of the Kew Senior Citizens group for 41 years. |
