Diana presented us initially with many small fragments of stories from her life, in particular her childhood in Shepparton. We decided that to focus on some aspect of Diana’s childhood would be ideal, but we were unsure as to how best to piece her stories together. We felt there was an interesting theme in the animals in Diana’s childhood – living on an orchard as a child, she was surrounded by family horses, pet dogs, cows and chickens. Diana also spoke admiringly and often of her father. We noticed a connection between Diana’s father and their family horse, Lady, as he often rode her and loved horses. Diana also spoke lovingly of Lady, so we decided this is where our theme for the documentary would lie.
