AIMEE MAZZA

Aimee was born in Cairo and lived there until she was 22, when she came to Australia with her husband John. In Egypt, they lived as a silent and invisible minority, unable to fully participate in politics.  They spoke French, Arabic and English. Her mother and grandmother also spoke Ladino as her grandmother was one of the many Sephardic Jews from Spain, who had settled in Turkey. She was educated at a Franciscan school, run by Irish and Canadian nuns. She’s now a French teacher and a VCE examiner. She joined National Council in 1975 and is the editor of Council News. She’s a writer, “a dabbler”, she says, a dressmaker, a Hebrew student, a teacher and a devoted grandmother and cook.
